NOLAN COUNTY, Texas — Three people were killed in a head-on collision in Nolan County after police say a motorist attempted to pass an 18-wheeler in a no-passing zone on Sunday.
The crash occurred at 6:49 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2019, approximately 19.51 miles southeast of Sweetwater, Texas, on State Highway (SH) 153.
A 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on SH 153 and a 2012 Dodge Charger was traveling northbound, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Fred Biddle, citing preliminary crash investigation.
The Corolla, driven by 20-year-old Bryan Isaac Pesina of Dale, Texas, attempted to pass a truck-tractor and trailer in a no-passing zone when it struck the Charger head-on, according to the report.
Pesina was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Charger, 43-year-old Joan Palacios, and a passenger 47-year-old Juan Palacios, both of Crosbyton, Texas, were also pronounced deceased at the scene. A second passenger in the Charger, 22-year-old Katerina Pesina, not related to Bryan Pesina, was critically injured and transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
The road conditions were dry and the weather was clear and cloudy at the time of the crash.
