EL PASO, Texas — UPDATE [Apr. 20] — A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of a man captured on video surveillance ambushing an elderly El Paso business owner and brutally beating him with brass knuckles during an aggravated robbery.

On Thursday, April 16, 2020, police say investigative work and the Crime Stoppers tip led El Paso Police Department Central Regional Command TAC Unit members to the arrest of 20-year-old Paul Carmona.

Carmona was charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and is being held at the El Paso County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.

ORIGINAL [Apr.12 ] — The El Paso Police Department is seeking the public's assistance identifying a man who brutally beat an elderly business owner with brass knuckles during an aggravated robbery last month.

The robbery has been featured by the El Paso Crime Stoppers as the crime of the week.

Police say the incident happened as the 71-year-old business owner was opening up Sun City Woodworks, located at 1816 Myrtle, in south El Paso.

After ambushing and beating the shop owner, the suspect fled the scene with money and his cell phone.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, possibly between 25 and 30 years old, 5'11", and approximately 200 pounds.
