HOUSTON, Texas — A man died after crashing into a disabled 18-wheeler on the shoulder of Houston's Southwest Freeway on Monday afternoon.
According to police, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2020, the driver of a disabled red Freightliner truck-tractor and trailer stopped completely in the left shoulder in the 11100 block of Southwest Freeway.
The driver took precautions and placed multiple warning signs along the yellow solid line between the left shoulder and the nearest lane of traffic to notify drivers of his disabled truck, according to police.
Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee reported, "The victim, driving a silver Lexus GS 350, failed to maintain a single lane and struck the rear of the 18-wheeler."
The 58-year-old male victim, who's identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.
The crash investigation remains ongoing.
