SAN ANTONIO, Texas — San Antonio police say a suspected car burglar was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with a homeowner early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 2:58 a.m., on May 5, 2020, the San Antonio Police Department responded to the reported shooting in the 900 block of Deely Place.
The homeowner told police he observed the individual burglarizing his vehicle and confronted him when the suspect pointed a handgun at the homeowner.
The homeowner and suspect exchanged gunfire, according to police, with the suspect fleeing on foot.
The San Antonio Police Department's helicopter, "Eagle," was deployed in the search for the suspect who was found laying in the grass at Bellaire Park. Arriving officers discovered the suspect had been shot in the chest. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police recovered a handgun next to the suspect's body.
As of Wednesday morning, the suspect had not been identified, according to police.
