LUBBOCK, Texas — Two people were shot and killed at a Lubbock nightclub on New Years and a suspect remain at large, according to police.
At approximately 1:52 a.m., on January 1, 2020, the Lubbock Police Department responded to Level Nightclub in the 1900 block of Buddy Holly Avenue, just south of downtown Lubbock, in reference to a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, police officers located two gunshot wound victims — 17-year-old Garyontae Shephard in the street in front of the nightclub and 24-year-old Dedrick Traylor inside the nightclub.
Both were transported to UMC where they were later pronounced deceased.
The nightclub was holding a New Years Eve event overnight.
According to preliminary information from investigators, Traylor and the suspect had a physical altercation inside the nightclub when the suspect pulled a firearm and shot him. Shephard was seen running from the scene when he was shot.
The Lubbock Police Department's Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit responded to the scene for investigation.
Suspect description was not available at the time of press and an arrest had not been made.
