ABILENE, Texas — Police say an alleged suspect has been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation in northwest Abilene.

Authorities responded to a shooting incident on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at around 2:10 p.m. in the 5100 block of Capitol Avenue in west Abilene.

Police were dispatched to the scene following a report of an injured individual. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim lying in the street, having sustained a gunshot wound. Immediate medical attention was provided, and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Eric Tonche.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the area in pursuit of a suspect, but initial efforts were unsuccessful in locating the individual. However, after an extensive search, law enforcement apprehended 20-year-old Marvin Kyree Jones Jr. near the Mall of Abilene at approximately 8:20 p.m. on the same day. The arrest took place hours after the homicide occurred.

Jones is being held at the Taylor County Jail on the first-degree felony murder charge.

Police have not disclosed a motive in the shooting.
