AMARILLO, Texas — A Maryland man was arrested after Texas Department of Public Safety troopers discovered 61 pounds of liquid methamphetamine concealed with wine bottles during a traffic stop last week.
At approximately 3:19 p.m., on July 21, 2020, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse for a traffic violation on eastbound Interstate 40 near Conway, Texas, in Carson County.
"The Trooper then discovered multiple one liter wine bottles containing liquid methamphetamine," read a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Special agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) were contacted to assist with the case which the DEA adopted.
The driver, 32-year-old Luis Fuentes of Greenbelt, Maryland, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. He is being held at the Randall County Jail.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the liquid methamphetamine was allegedly were being transported from Madera, California, to Washington, DC.
