CEDAR HILL, Texas — An 11-year-old Cedar Hill boy was found shot dead in his parent's bedroom on Saturday night.
The Cedar Hill Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of South Highland around 7:43 p.m. on reports of a shooting with injury.
Cedar Hill police say the child's parents were at an event and their grandfather was watching the children. The grandfather told police he was downstairs with an eight-year-old child watching TV and the 11-year-old child was upstairs playing video games in his room.
"The grandfather heard a noise and went upstairs and found the victim on the floor in the parents room," stated the department. "There was a handgun near the victim."
The grandfather called 911 upon discovering the child.
"This is a very difficult time for the family, friends and our community," stated the department. "Please keep them all in your thoughts and prayers."
Both children attend Cedar Hill Independent School District schools, according to police, and additional counselors will be made available to students.
