ARLINGTON, Texas — Two north Texas woman were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Monday night in the Texas panhandle, according to police.

The crash occurred on Monday, January 6, 2020, on U.S. 287 near Hedley, Texas — which is located approximately 75 miles southeast of Amarillo, Texas.

According to preliminary crash investigation, a 2018 Nissan Rogue was traveling eastbound on U.S. 287 veered off the highway in a construction zone, over-corrected, lost control, and struck an 18-wheeler that was traveling westbound.

30-year-old Martha Ayala-Garcia of Fort Worth, Texas, and 30-year-old Samantha Petters of Arlington, Texas, both occupants of the Nissan, were pronounced deceased at the scene. A third occupant was airlifted to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life, but serious threatening injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating the crash.
