GARLAND, Texas — A Rockwall man was arrested and charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing a woman at a Walmart gas station in Garland on Friday evening.

Just after 4:30 p.m., on Friday, May 8, 2020, the Garland Police Department responded to the reported shooting at the Walmart gas station in the 500 block of West Interstate Highway 30.

Upon arrival, officers observed a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. The woman, identified by police as 33-year-old Jessica Watkins, was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

"Detectives learned the woman was at the gas station speaking with patrons," read a statement from the Garland Police Department. "The woman spoke with a male sitting in his vehicle parked at one of the gas pumps."

"At some point during the encounter, the male shot the woman," continued the statement. "The male then fled the area in his vehicle without notifying police."

Witnesses were able to obtain the license plate of the vehicle the male fled in which led police to a residence in the 1500 block of Walnut Ridge Drive in Rockwall, Texas, where 28-year-old Aaron Haas was arrested.

Haas was charged with murder, based on the investigation, according to police.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
