IRVING, Texas — Police in north Texas shot and killed an armed suspect who shot his way into a locked convenience store early Thursday morning.
At approximately 1:15 a.m., on April 2, 2020, the Irving Police Department was dispatched to the 7-Eleven convenience store at 510 North Nursery Road for a man who reportedly shooting at the store's glass front doors to gain entry into the locked business.
"As officers arrived on scene, the suspect was walking out of the store," read a statement from the Irving Police Department. "One officer, gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop his shotgun, the suspect did not comply and the officer discharged his duty weapon striking the suspect at least once."
The suspect, identified by police as 69-year-old Joseph Zahaczewski of Irving, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
There were no injuries reported to police officers or a store clerk who hid in a bathroom.
"This investigation is in the early stages and is progressing," stated the department.
