PLANO, Texas — A Plano Police Department officer shot and killed a knife-wielding woman who had stabbed him and another driver with whom she had been previously involved in a crash.

Around 7 a.m., on Thursday, June 25, 2020, a Plano Police Department police officer observed a crash between two vehicles at the intersection of Legacy Drive and Independence Parkway.

"As the Officer was working the crash, one of the involved parties went to her vehicle, retrieved a knife and walked to the other vehicle and began stabbing the driver," stated the Plano Police Department. "The Officer intervened and the suspect then turned and began attacking him with the knife, ultimately striking him in the left arm."

Police say the woman then ran around the front of the vehicle, as the officer circled around the back, and the woman began entering the passenger side of the victim's vehicle.

"The Officer fired his service firearm at the suspect to stop her attack," stated the department.

The police officer, the victim, and the suspect were all transported to an area hospital.

The suspect, who had been struck multiple times by the officer's gunfire, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. the officer and the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

"The account of events was confirmed by body worn camera footage and multiple independent witnesses to the incident," stated the department.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to determine what led to the crash and motive in the subsequent stabbing attack. The Plano Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit and the Collin County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.

Investigators were working to identify the woman at the time of their press release on Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle driven by the suspect was also later determined to be stolen out of another jurisdiction.

The police officer was placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is taking place, as is protocol, according to the department.
