LAVON, Texas — Four Community Independent School District high school students were killed in a head-on collision in North Texas on Tuesday night, according to police.
According to the Lavon Police Department, the four students were in a pickup truck traveling northbound on State Highway (SH) 78 when it reportedly hydroplaned, crossed into southbound traffic, and struck a van head on.
The crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on SH 78 near Lake Road in Lavon, Texas.
Police say, in addition to the four fatalities, three others were injured in the van and transported to area hospitals with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
"Tonight we were devastated to learn of a tragic car accident involving multiple students from CISD," read a statement from Community ISD. "Our thoughts & prayers are with these families & the entire Brave Nation as we grieve together."
Additional counselors were made available to students on Wednesday morning.
Police have not identified the students.
