DENTON, Texas — A man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated after striking a police vehicle which was working a separate DWI traffic stop last night.
A Northeast Police Department officer was assisting another officer on a suspected DWI traffic stop along US Highway 380, where a DWI-related arrest was made. According to police, after the initial officer left with the first suspected intoxicated driver, the second officer's vehicle was struck by another suspected intoxicated driver.
"The officer that was hit had just completed an inventory of the vehicle that was being towed related to the first DWI arrest," stated the department. "Our officer had just entered his patrol unit, when the second impaired driver, who was driving without headlights, struck the back of the police vehicle."
The officer was uninjured in the crash.
"The patrol vehicle that was struck, was parked providing protection for a tow-truck driver, who was loading the vehicle involved in the original stop," stated the department.
The second DWI crash investigation is being conducted by the City of Denton Police Department. The Denton Police Department stated on their Facebook page, "We can’t stress this enough… If you’re going to drink, STAY HOME."
