DALLAS, Texas — A man was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a teen on the Ronald Kirk Bridge early Saturday morning.
The man, identified as 21-year-old Carlos Vidal Mendez, is being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $150,000 bond on the murder charge and also an immigration detainer on a charge for "illegal alien," according to Dallas County Jail records.
Early Saturday morning, the Dallas Police Department responded to the shooting on the Ronald Kirk pedestrian bridge located at 3100 Gulden Lane.
There, officers found 16-year-old Christopher Alexis Rivera lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head.He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 21-year-old female was also found to be suffering a gunshot wound to the pelvis area after being struck in the crossfire, according to police. She was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
Police say Mendez and Rivera were involved in a verbal argument just before both started shooting at each other. Hours later, Mendez was taken into custody.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
