ARLINGTON, Texas — A driver has died after crashing into an Arlington Fire Department truck that was blocking traffic for a separate crash investigation early Saturday morning.
At approximately 12:46 a.m., on Saturday, May 23, 2020, the Arlington Police Department and Arlington Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Eastbound Interstate Highway 20 for a major crash involving an overturned vehicle.
The Arlington Fire Department engine was positioned in the left lane and inside shoulder of the eastbound lanes, blocking traffic for the initial crash investigation.
Police say a sedan was traveling in the left lane approaching the fire engine, which had its lights activated, and failed to vacate the lane — subsequently striking the rear of the fire engine. The driver was transported to Medical City Arlington where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:31 a.m. on Saturday.
The driver was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office as 27-year-old Derrick Asafu-Adjaye of Grand Prairie, Texas.
