GARLAND, Texas — Four aggravated robbery suspects were arrested after a police chase in Garland and Dallas earlier today.
Just before 2 p.m., the Garland Police Department responded to a business in the 6200 block of Broadway Boulevard.
There, the suspects allegedly pulled up to the business in a black SUV, exited the vehicle while armed, and approached the business. The employees of the store observed the suspects and were able to lock the doors and prevent the suspects from making entry.
Undercover officers with the Dallas Police Department observed the robbery attempt and followed the suspect vehicle until Garland Police Department officers located the vehicle near Wynn Joyce Road and Northwest Highway. Officers in marked patrol units attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but it fled, leading police in a vehicle pursuit.
A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter was launched and aided in tracking the vehicle just prior to and during the pursuit.
"Due to the suspects being armed and actively evading, Garland officers utilized the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, successfully disabling the suspect vehicle near Santa Anna and Garland Road, in Dallas," read a statement from the Garland Police Department. "The four occupants were taken into custody."
Two adults and two juveniles, all of Dallas, Texas, were arrested. The two adults were identified as 18-year-old Samidre Washington and 17-year-old Jatyrine Stewart. Both juveniles were 16 years old and were not identified by police due to their age. Each was charged with aggravated robbery and Stewart, the driver, was charged with evading arrest.
Police recovered a handgun from the vehicle.
Washington and Stewart were transported to the Garland Detention Center and the two juveniles were later transported to the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center.
"We want to thank the Dallas Police Department and the DPS Helicopter for their assistance in apprehending these four aggravated robbery suspects," stated the department.
Bond information was not available as of press time as the defendants were awaiting arraignment.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
