McKINNEY, Texas — A former McKinney Independent School District teacher has been arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
50-year-old Kirby Glynn Smith was arrested, charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, and is being held at the Collin County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
According to the McKinney Police Department, Smith was a teacher at McKinney ISD's Cockrill Middle School at the time of the abuse. Most recently, he served as the assistant principal at Van Alstyne Middle School, approximately 20 miles north of Cockrill Middle School in Van Alstyne, Texas.
Van Alstyne Superintendent David Brown, in a statement released Wednesday, confirmed a district employee had been arrested, subsequently placed on administrative leave, barred from district property.
There are no other known victims, according to the McKinney Police Department. However, anyone with information is asked to contact the McKinney Police Department at (972) 547-2710.

"It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge McKinney ISD received a report from the McKinney Police Department that a former employee, Mr. Glynn Smith, was arrested on a charge of sexual abuse of a child. We were deeply disturbed and saddened by the news that a former teacher in our district may be involved in the abuse of a child. We believe our number one priority is maintaining the safety and security of our students. Due to the fact that this is an ongoing investigation we have very little information at this time. We will provide additional information when it becomes available."
