DENTON, Texas — Denton police say they have arrested the roommate of a man killed on Saturday night — charging him with manslaughter.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., the Denton Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious person in the 200 block of South Bonnie Brae Street. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering an apparent gunshot wound.
The man, whose identity police has not been released by police, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The man's roommate, 20-year-old Kashanmustafa Ali, was interviewed as a witness on the night of the homicide and provided false information regarding a possible suspect in the case, the Denton Police Department stated in an update on Sunday night.
"Ali’s account did not match physical evidence at the scene," stated the department. "After interviewing Ali and a witness, investigators were able to determine that Ali shot the victim."
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Ali on a charge for manslaughter. He was booked into the City of Denton Jail on the manslaughter charge. Bond information was not available at the time of press.
