GARLAND, Texas — A Dallas woman was arrested and charged with murder after an alleged disturbance turned deadly at a Garland apartment on Saturday, according to police.

Just before 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 1, 2021, the Garland Police Department and Garland Fire Department responded to an unknown medical call at an apartment community in the 800 block of La Prada Drive.

There, arriving police officers and paramedics discovered 57-year-old Lorita Batiste unconscious inside an apartment with signs of "obvious trauma to her body," stated police. Bastiste was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

33-year-old Trametria Baldwin of Dallas, Texas, was also in the apartment and "appeared to have been involved in a physical altercation."

"Investigators learned that Bastiste lived at the apartment and Baldwin was visiting," read a statement from the Garland Police Department today. "Based on the investigation, homicide detectives believe there was a disturbance inside the apartment between Baldwin and Bastiste that escalated to the point where both began fighting."

"It is believed that during the altercation Baldwin killed Bastiste," continued the statement.

Baldwin, as of press time Monday, was booked into the Garland Detention Center on a murder charge and was being held on a $500,000 bond.

"The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working with the Dallas County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death," stated the department.
