DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have placed an exclusive franchise tag on Dak Prescott, estimated around $33 million, and secured exclusive negotiating rights with their starting quarterback as the league-wide negotiating window opened Monday morning.

The team opted for the exclusive franchise tag, worth an estimated $33 million, over a non-exclusive tag which was estimated at $28 million — with exclusive tags being the average salaries of the Top 5 quarterbacks in the NFL.

Prescott is the first quarterback to exclusive franchise tag since Kirk Cousins with the Washington Redskins in 2017.

"According to reports, the Cowboys and Prescott's camp have been at odds over both the guaranteed money and the yearly average of the deal," stated a report on DallasCowboys.com.
