DALLAS, Texas — An armed man with body armor was shot dead by a security guard as police say he was attempting to burglarize an Apple store in north Dallas.

Around 2:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the Dallas Police Department responded to the Apple store in the 3100 block of Knox Street for a reported shooting involving a security officer.

Upon their arrival, officers learned from the security officer and a witness that an armed man, carrying an "assault rifle" and wearing body armor, entered the rear of the business and attempted to disarm the security officer and commit a robbery.

The security officer, a retired Dallas Police Department officer, was able to pull his weapon and fired multiple times — striking the robbery suspect multiple times.

The suspect ran for a short distance and collapsed in the rear alley, according to police. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police have not released his identifying information.

Because this incident involves a security officer, the Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the shooting.
