CHANNELVIEW, Texas — An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in Channelview, Texas, just outside of Houston.

The shooting occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. in the 15000 block of North Brentwood Street in Channelview.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the home was occupied by a family and several children who had recently moved in — saying the shooting may have been intended for the previous residents as they had a history of criminal activity.

Numerous shots were fired into the home, according to Gonzalez.

The 11-year-old boy was shot and pronounced deceased at the scene. Gonzales says several other children were sleeping in the same room as the victim.

"They could have killed and injured a lot more people," he said.

"This is a tragic, a senseless, and sad situation. This is a child," he said. "These are cowards that shoot into a home."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Harris County Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS or the Harris County Sheriff's Office at (713) 221-6000.
