ARLINGTON, Texas — A North Texas woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated after crashing into the back of an Arlington Police Department motorcycle unit that was conducting a traffic stop on Wednesday.

Arlington police say their motorcycle officer was conducting a traffic stop on westbound Interstate 30 at Fielder Drive when an SUV veered onto the shoulder and struck the motorcycle. The police officer was standing nearby when the motorcycle was struck.

The driver of the SUV, identified by police as Christina Jordan Carpenter, the police officer, and the person initially stopped by the officer conducting traffic enforcement were all transported to the hospital with what were described by police as non-life threatening injuries. The police officer has since been discharged from the hospital.

Carpenter was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

"Totally preventable crime," stated Arlington Police Department Chief Will Johnson.
