THE COLONY, Texas — Two The Colony Police Department officers were injured in a rollover crash while responding to a burglary call overnight.
Police say citizens came to the aide of the police officers after they became entrapped in their patrol car.
The patrol car was responding to the burglary call with its emergency lights and sirens activated.
"The patrol unit slowed as it approached the red lighted intersection at Paige Road and SH 121," stated The Colony Police Department. "When cars yielded to the patrol unit operating in emergency mode, the patrol unit slowly entered the intersection and was struck by a passenger car causing the patrol unit to roll onto it’s roof."
"The Officers were trapped in the patrol unit," stated the department. "Citizens came to the aide of the Officers and helped them escape the wreckage."
The two officers and the driver of the passenger car were transported to an area hospital by ambulance and treated for minor injuries.
The driver of the passenger car was cited for failing to yield to an authorized emergency vehicle.
"A big thank you goes out to the citizens who helped the officers and the other driver involved escape from the wrecked vehicles," stated the department.
