TERRELL COUNTY, Texas — Two people were killed Tuesday morning when two 18-wheelers collided head on and an SUV crashed into the wreckage, according to police.
Around 5:30 a.m., two 18-wheelers were traveling in opposite directions on State Highway 90, about seven miles east of Dryden, Texas, when one crossed the center line and struck the other head on, according to the Terrell County Sheriff's Office.
Shortly after the head-on collision, police say a westbound SUV slammed into the wreckage because they were unable to see due to dark conditions.
The driver and passenger of the eastbound traveling 18-wheeler, who were not identified, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger in the SUV were airlifted to an area hospital. The driver and passenger of the westbound traveling 18-wheeler were uninjured.
The highway remained closed Tuesday morning for approximately eight hours.
