AMARILLO, Texas — Two Californians were arrested following a Texas traffic stop in which they were found to be in possession of marijuana, THC products, and fentanyl, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

On Monday, at approximately 5:29 p.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a 2019 Kia Rio on eastbound Interstate 40 near Conway, Texas, for a traffic violation.

"A DPS canine arrived on scene and alerted on the vehicle," according to a Texas Department of Public Safety press release. "The trooper then discovered THC products, vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana, and a plastic-wrapped bundle of fentanyl in the trunk."

The THC products weighed 22 pounds, the marijuana weighed eight pounds, and the fentanyl weighed over two pounds.

The driver, 26-year-old Wanda Smith, and passenger, 25-year-old Lakayla Walker, both of Fairfield, California, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Both were booked into the Carson County Jail.

"The drugs allegedly were being transported from Las Vegas, Nevada to Birmingham, Alabama," stated the release.
