crash

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — A Grand Prairie Police Department officer died after a crash on the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) on Friday morning.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on northbound PGBT on the Dickey Road overpass. Police had closed the northbound lanes and Dickey Road while they investigated the crash scene.

The officer, identified as Albert Castaneda, was taken to Medical City Arlington where he was later pronounced deceased.

During a press conference on Friday afternoon, Chief Steve Dye says Castaneda was thrown off the overpass as a result of the collision.

"It is with deep sadness that I announce we have lost on of our [Grand Prairie Police Department] officers this morning," Grand Prairie Police Department Chief Steve Dye stated in a post on Twitter. "Our department is hurting... our community is hurting... our city is hurting."

"Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we move forward," stated Dye.
