WICHITA FALLS, Texas — A former Texas Department of Public Safety trooper has been arrested and charged with tampering with evidence in North Texas.

Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Harden, who had been employed by DPS for more than 10 years, was accused of mishandling evidence.

Harden was suspended of his duties in June after the Texas Rangers were made aware of the allegations. He has since resigned.

The Texas Rangers turned over their investigation findings to the Wichita County District Attorney's Office who, in turn, presented it to a grand jury. The grand jury returned indictments for tampering with evidence and possession of a controlled substance.

Harden was arrested on the charges, booked into the Wichita County Jail, and released on a personal recognizance bond on September 5, 2019.
