TEXARKANA, Texas — A 45-year-old Wake Village man turned himself in to police on Sunday after allegedly striking a police vehicle that was conducting a separate DWI investigation and fleeing the scene.
Texarkana police officers had initially stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche for a traffic violation on Interstate 369, also known as Jarvis Parkway, in the area of West 7th Street at approximately 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.
"While the officers were conducting a DWI investigation with the driver of that vehicle on the side of the roadway, a northbound truck struck the driver’s side of both the police unit and the Avalanche," stated a release from the Texarkana Police Department.
The driver of the pickup truck, identified by police as 45-year-old John Hanna of Wake Village, did not stop and fled the scene.
No injuries were reported in the crash. The patrol vehicle and the Avalanche had to be towed from the scene.
Police say Hanna turned himself in on Sunday and identified himself as the driver who struck the two vehicles and fled the scene. Hanna was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage. Additionally, Hanna was cited for no insurance and failure to slow down or move over. He is being held at the Bi-Sate Jail on a $10,000 bond.
