CENTER, Texas — Five people were killed in an east Texas head-on collision yesterday afternoon, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash is the second five-person fatal crash on Texas highways in three days — the other being just south of Odessa on Aug. 14.

At approximately 5:40 p.m., on August 16, 2020, a 2010 Toyota pickup truck was traveling westbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 2026 when, for as of yet to be determined reasons, it crossed over into the eastbound lanes and struck a 2019 GMC pickup head-on.

The crash was located approximately two miles northwest of Center, Texas.

The driver of the Toyota, identified by police as 30-year-old Michael Masterson, of Center, was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana for treatment.

Three children traveling with Masterson were pronounced deceased at the scene. DPS identified the children as 10-year-old Tora Masterson, 4-year-old Ella Masterson, and 2-year-old Mason Masterson.

The driver of the GMC was identified as 15-year-old Mackenzie Parks, from nearby Tenaha, Texas. She was transported to LSU Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.

Two passengers traveling with Parks were identified as 61-year-old Sandra Parks and 15-year-old Mason Parks. Sandra Parks was pronounced deceased at the scene and Mason Parks was transported to LSU Medical Center for treatment.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant David Hendrey says the crash remains under investigation.
