SUTTON, Texas — Two people were killed in a fiery 18-wheeler crash early Tuesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Justin Baker, based on preliminary crash investigation, a 2009 Volvo truck-tractor towing a trailer was traveling westbound on Interstate 10, just six miles west of Sonora, Texas, when it struck the towed trailer of a 1997 Peterbilt truck-tractor.
The crash occurred around 1:28 a.m., according to Baker, and resulted in both 18-wheelers engulfing in flames.
The driver of the Volvo truck tractor was identified as 49-year-old Servilio Placeres Gonzalez of Houston, Texas, and the driver of the Peterbilt was identified as 72-year-old Luis A. Sanchez of Sugar Land, Texas.
Both were pronounced deceased at the scene by Sutton County Justice of the Peace Joseph Harris.
