KENDALL COUNTY, Texas — A Kendall County Sheriff's Office deputy was struck and killed during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday morning, according to Sheriff Al Auxier.
The deputy, who had been with the department since 2016, was identified as Carlos Ramirez, according to Auxier during a Tuesday press conference. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Auxier says Ramirez and his partner were conducting a traffic stop Tuesday morning on Interstate 10, north of Boerne, Texas, near mile marker 533, when they were struck by pickup truck. Ramirez's partner, who has not been identified, was also injured, transported to an area hospital, and has since been released.
"This is a reminder of the sacrifices that law enforcement officers all across this county make every day," Auxier stated during the press conference. "Every time they put on their uniform as they go out to try to make their communities a safer place to live."
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
Ramirez also served as an Army reservist and had recently been deployed to Africa.
