GIDDINGS, Texas — Four children were killed and another child and woman were critically injured in a Central Texas crash yesterday.

According to preliminary crash investigation, around 3:40 p.m., on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, a Peterbuilt truck-tractor hauling a trailer was traveling southbound on U.S. 77 approximately five miles south of Giddings, Texas, when it lost control and traveled into the northbound lanes.

A Nissan Pathfinder, being driven by 26-year-old Chelsea Dawn Frances was traveling northbound, according to preliminary crash investigation, when she traveled to the right to take evasive actions to avoid a collision with the truck-tractor trailer.

The Pathfinder traveled a short distance off the roadway before overcorrecting to the left across all northbound lanes and into the path of a second southbound truck-tractor hauling a trailer.

The Pathfinder and the second truck-tractor trailer collided — resulting in two children being ejected from the Pathfinder.

Frances was transported to Dell Seton in critical condition. 6-year-old Lillian Sue Wright was transported to Dell Children's in unknown condition.

13-year-old Lillian Castro was transported to Dell Children's where she was later pronounced deceased at 10:30 p.m.

3-year-old Daniella Castro, 2-year-old Sebian Castro, and 7-year-old Trenton Ryan Wright were all pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash remains under investigation.
