AUSTIN, Texas — UPDATE [Dec 20 5:20 p.m.] — The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has positively identified the body discovered in a car trunk in the Houston area on Thursday as that of missing Austin mother Heidi Broussard.

Her cause of death was listed as ligature strangulation, according to the institute.

UPDATE [Dec. 20 12:02 p.m.] — The body of missing Austin mother Heidi Broussard was found in a car trunk in the Houston area overnight and her three-week-old daughter, Margot Carey, was found alive and seemingly unharmed. 

A woman, Magen Rose Fieramusca, is being held in the Harris County Jail on Austin Police Department charges for tampering with a corpse and two counts of kidnapping, according to online jail records. 

Austin police say they are awaiting an autopsy to positively identify the body as that of Broussard's. Her family, however, confirmed her identity to multiple media outlets on Friday. 

Three-week-old Margot Carey has been placed into Child Protective Services custody and was taken to a hospital overnight for a precautionary evaluation. 

Police are investigating Broussard's relationship to Fieramusca, who, according to multiple media accounts, was a friend of Broussard's and had pretended to be pregnant at the same time as the victim. 

Police are also investigating if anyone else was involved in the kidnapping and murder of Broussard. 

The Austin Police Department is expecting to hold a press conference at 2 p.m.

UPDATE [Dec. 18] — The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined in the search for a missing Central Texas mother and her two-week-old infant. In doing so, the department has tasked a CARD team, Child Abduction Rapid Deployment, to assist in the search.

Austin police say they are investigating every angle of the case and have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected or if the mother, Heidi Broussard, left on her own accord, as it is unknown at this time.

Police have set up a dedicated tip line for information in the search for Broussard and two-week-old Margot Carey. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at (512) 974-5100.

ORIGINAL [Dec. 13] — The Austin Police Department is public's assistance locating a missing mother and her 2-week-old infant last seen yesterday morning dropping off another child at school.

33-year-old Heidi Broussard was last seen dropping off a child at Cown Elementary School, located at 2817 Kentish Drive, at approximately 7:30 a.m. on December 12, 2019. Broussard was with her 2-week-old infant, Margot Carey, and was believed to have returned to their residence near West William Cannon and South First Street but, have not been seen or heard from since.

Broussard is described as a white female with long, dark hair with highlights, 5’3” and 150 pounds, and wearing unknown clothing.

Carey is described as a white infant female with unknown clothing, 7 pounds 7 ounces, and 22 inches.
